Pie Eyed, a new food stall specializing in hand-pressed pies, has opened in Belfast's Common Market. The menu features a variety of flavors, including Steak and Guinness, Chinese Chicken Curry, and Moroccan Spiced Lamb, with prices ranging from £8 to £12 for a meal deal.
Common Market has welcomed a brand new offering with the arrival of Pie Eyed , a spot specializing in hand-pressed pies . Eager to sample their creations, I ventured into the city center establishment on a Thursday evening. The menu was refreshingly concise, featuring five tantalizing pies, including Steak and Guinness, Chinese Chicken Curry, and Moroccan Spiced Lamb . Alas, by the time I arrived, the Chinese Chicken Curry had already sold out.
So, I opted for the Moroccan Spiced Lamb and the classic Steak and Guinness. The sides were equally straightforward, with a choice of mash, gravy, and peas, ensuring a swift and effortless ordering process. The Steak and Guinness, a perennial favorite in the pie world, lived up to its reputation. I was told it was a huge hit during Ireland's opening Six Nations match. Paired with mash and gravy, this classic combination was truly exceptional. The flavors were impeccable, confirming its status as a beloved choice. I always enjoy trying something new, so when the Chinese Chicken Curry was unavailable, I went for the Moroccan Spiced Lamb. I was pleasantly surprised. The blend of spices was perfectly balanced, offering a subtle heat without being overpowering. For those hesitant about spice, don't let the name deter you – it's mild yet flavorful. Each pie was priced at £8, and a 'meal deal' option for £12 included mash, gravy, and peas. I found this to be quite reasonable for Belfast City Centre, and the portion sizes were generous, justifying the price. Overall, Pie Eyed is a definite must-visit if you're exploring the city. It's the ideal accompaniment to a pint while enjoying live music or watching the sports on the screens at Common Market. It's fantastic to see fresh and inventive food concepts emerging in Belfast, and I'll undoubtedly be returning. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, be sure to arrive early to avoid missing out on any pies, as they tend to sell out quickly
