A police officer in London displayed extraordinary initiative and resourcefulness when he chased a suspected drug dealer on the suspect's own bicycle after the fugitive tried to flee on foot.
A thrilling chase unfolded on the streets of south east London on the evening of December 9, 2023, as a police officer pursued a suspected drug dealer on his own bicycle. Body camera footage captured the dramatic incident, showcasing the dedication and resourcefulness of Sergeant Alan Cooley. The footage begins with Sgt Cooley approaching Justice Oyedokun, 22, who was cycling through the area. As Sgt Cooley initiated a conversation, Oyedokun suddenly dropped his bicycle and fled on foot.
Undeterred, Sgt Cooley wasted no time in seizing the opportunity. He swiftly picked up the abandoned bicycle and pursued Oyedokun on two wheels, providing updates on the suspect's location to his colleagues via walkie-talkie. The chase took a comical turn as the pair circled a parked car. Oyedokun, wearing a black hoodie and carrying a Nike bag, shouted at the officer, pleading with him to get off. Sgt Cooley, despite being out of breath, kept his composure, relaying the chase's location to his team and eventually apprehending Oyedokun near a Domino's Pizza outlet. Oyedokun attempted to escape once more but was swiftly apprehended by arriving backup units. The incident culminated in Oyedokun's arrest on Romney Road in Greenwich, where he was taken into custody.
