A police constable is accused of preying on vulnerable domestic violence victims and turning down his police radio while with one of the women. The officer had established intimate relationships with these women after they reported abuse to the force. The case came to light following investigations by the IOPC. Victims expressed feelings of betrayal and anxiety, struggling to trust police officers in the future.
A sex pest constable who preyed on vulnerable domestic violence victims 'turned his police radio down' when with one of the women, a court heard.
One victim personal statement read out to the court heard that one victim would now "struggle to trust a police officer going forward" and had suffered with "anxiousness". Another victim added the uniform made them "feel safe" and felt "tricked" by the police officer and was "worried no-one would believe me."
He added that Hoyle "did not wish any complainants to experience the distress they've set out in their VPS", adding that: "It was difficult for him as a police officer to hear those matters expressed." The court heard it was a "trying time" for prisons as "custody now for anyone is harder than it may have been historically, perhaps more so for a police officer" as the defence counsel asked for the judge to take this into consideration when sentencing.
He went on to said each woman was vulnerable, adding: "In my judgement, a common theme emerges throughout the exploitation of four vulnerable women. You were a serving police constable, a patrolling officer."
