Pret A Manger has reversed its earlier decision to double the price of its popular Club Pret monthly subscription for up to five coffees a day. The sandwich chain has confirmed that the subscription fee will remain at £5, a move welcomed by many of its loyal customers.

Pret A Manger has walked back on plans to double the cost of its £5 monthly subscription for up to five coffees a day, a move met with widespread relief from its customers. The sandwich chain sent out a message to its subscribers, confirming that the Club Pret monthly subscription fee will remain at £5. The announcement stated: 'At Pret, we believe in offering high-quality, organic coffee and barista-made drinks at fantastic value.

'With Club Pret, you'll continue to enjoy great savings on up to five barista-made drinks per day.' Pret had previously informed subscribers that their subscription would increase to £10 a month from March 31st, coinciding with the end of a 50 per cent off deal. This followed Pret's overhaul of its £360-a-year subscription in July last year, replacing it with a 50 per cent discount on up to five coffees a day for £10 a month. The decision to reverse the price hike was welcomed by many Club Pret members. One X user tagged the coffee shop and commented: 'Congratulations for keeping your membership fee at £5, whilst unhappy at the original changes, this goes a little way to mending that bridge!' The chain had also previously removed a 20 per cent discount on food for subscribers, citing discomfort with the dual pricing system. Pret A Manger has axed plans to double their current £5 monthly subscription for up to five coffees a day. Under the previous deal, Club Pret membership offered up to five barista-made drinks daily for a monthly fee of £30. Launched at the height of the pandemic in September 2020, it aimed to lure customers working from home back into their stores. In March last year, the chain implemented measures to prevent Club Pret subscribers from sharing free drinks with others, as some were exploiting loopholes in the system. This announcement comes amidst rising global coffee bean prices, which reached an all-time high of $4,300 (£3,356) a tonne last week. Factors contributing to the price surge include poor harvests in major coffee-producing regions like Brazil and Vietnam, geopolitical conflicts, and supply chain disruptions. There are also concerns about dwindling stocks in Brazil, which provides nearly half of the world's Arabica beans, the preferred type for coffee shop chains. As of April 2024, Pret A Manger had 498 stores in the UK, with 291 located in London. Sheffield welcomed a new store in November last year, following the closure of a previous store in the city centre in 2020. The chain has also expanded its reach into Africa, opening a new store in Johannesburg
