Angry motorists labelled the delays a farce as two lanes were shut
Highways officials have addressed the repair works on the M56 that resulted in three-hour delays and 11 miles of traffic. The works, which motorists labelled 'a farce', caused significant queues as two lanes were shut at Junction 12 for Runcorn. Angry drivers said it was the second time in a few weeks works had been carried out in the area. The closures began around 9.10am on the morning of Wednesday, October 30 and all restrictions were lifted by about 4.30pm, reports Cheshire Live .
'The cover was found to be unsafe and meant we had to close two of three lanes of the motorway for the safety of users and our workforce. Emergency repair work involved the installation of a new manhole cover and frame by a specialist contractor.
