Reports of a cap were met with alarm from some of the nation's largest universities, who lobbied the government to alter its plans over fears they would damage funding models dependent on full-fee-paying international students. Meanwhile, VET will have a cap of 95,000 international students from 2025 and providers with a higher ratio of international students will receive a lower allocation to encourage them to diversify their student base. While the changes will likely see major urban universities match or cut their international intake, Mr Clare explained those in the regions could be set for a boost. Picture: Getty Images
