Bus operators in Nottingham are warning passengers of severe delays due to ongoing roadworks at a major junction. The former roundabout at Maid Marian Way and Upper Parliament Street has been transformed into a T-junction, causing traffic congestion and impacting bus schedules.

Bus operators have warned users of severe delays on their networks due to roadworks at a Maid Marian Way junction. This comes as the former roundabout, at the junction with Upper Parliament Street, opened as a T-junction on Sunday, October 6, following eight months of transformation work.

"Buses are taking the same amount of time to travel along Parliament Street at peak hours as they would ordinarily take to travel to the outskirts of the City." The company added that Nottingham’s buses carried 57 million passengers in 2023/24 into the City. "We’re sorry for any delay – it’s beyond our control. Please treat our colleagues with respect when they do get to you, as we’re doing what we can."

"It was fine but now the works are causing a bit of chaos. It's not affecting me that much though as I get the tram on most days." "But I think once the works are completed, traffic will be more effective. It depends what congestion is like - when I came back from work on Friday, the middle bit was blocked off but then on Monday, you could drive right through it."

"This will be two lanes in the final scheme. Despite months of planning with our partners including the bus operators, we are seeing delays and for this we apologise and ask people to use different routes where possible. It says: "We’re at a difficult point of this ambitious Future High Streets government funded project, with our teams working to balance buses, drivers, pedestrians and construction work on a very busy junction. The current situation at the junction is temporary while works are in progress and does not reflect the final situation, specifically :Pedestrian crossings are working as ‘straight across’ which is reducing the amount of green time to traffic.
