Team Europe took a step closer to victory after retaining their five point lead heading into the final day of action in Rome.ended Saturday’s action with a flurry with Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick beaten in the final fourball match by Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark. Cantlay birdied on the final hole, sparking huge celebrations from Team USA, led by his caddy Joe LaCava. LaCava was seen joyously waving his hat in the air as part of those celebrations, irking McIlroy who was still lining up his final shot.The Northern Irishman was seen furiously berating someone off camera with Jim ‘Bones’ McKay – another member of the US team – stuck in the middle and bearing the brunt of McIlroy’s frustrations.
McIlroy’s teammate Shane Lowry was seen restraining him, easing him into a waiting car which drove off moments later.Describing the incident, golf journalist Rex Hoggard explained McIlroy used language ‘he would not repeat on air’ as the former world no1 labelled the earlier incident on the 18‘It was quite an exchange here with Rory McIlroy and Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay,’ Hoggard told Sky Sports.
