YouTube mechanic Scotty Kilmer suggests a £25 re-sealing additive as a solution for common oil leaks. While the additive can't fix major mechanical issues, it can rejuvenate worn rubber and seal minor leaks, saving drivers costly repairs. Kilmer also recommends fuel additives for improved performance and reduced emissions.

One of YouTube's most celebrated mechanics, Scotty Kilmer , who boasts over 55 years of experience, has recommended a £25 trick to drivers plagued by a frequent car issue – an oil leak. On his popular YouTube channel, Scotty dispenses tips on how to cut down motoring costs and avoid costly car damage. In one of his latest videos, he advocates for the use of a re-sealing additive that promises to revive worn-out rubber and mend leaks.

He demonstrates: 'Today I'm going to show you how a little bottle of sealer might be able to fix oil leaks on your car. It's called AT205 Re-Seal. You can see it's clear, but it's not water - it's a liquid polymer. 'Now, if you pour it into an engine that has rubber oil seal leaks, it can fix them. Here is a rubber oil seal, and the liquid can rejuvenate the rubber and stop the leak.' Whilst Scotty highlighted that the product is unable to fix failing metal components, such as a worn-out head gasket, re-sealing additives are able to plug small leaks within worn-out rubber components, reports the Express. Motoring fans could find some relief with bottles of re-sealing additive, usually retailing for around £25 in most car shops. These additives offer a relatively affordable fix that drivers can add themselves by pouring into the engine, transmission, or power steering fluids to mend minor glitches. Scotty points out in his latest video that while these solutions are no 'miracle', they are certainly worth a shot for tackling small leaks before resorting to costly mechanic visits. He advised: 'You can pour it in engine oil, even power steering systems, and it won't hurt the system. But, realise one thing - it's not a miracle. 'If the gasket is actually broken apart or has fallen out of its hole, this isn't going to fix anything. But, let's say that the rear main oil seal of your engine is leaking, trying this first sure beats pulling the engine out of the car and replacing it!' Meanwhile, drivers who are experiencing a lack of power or increased fuel consumption can also buy an additive which can be mixed with petrol and diesel. Available in supermarkets and car accessory stores for around £5 per bottle, these fuel additives contain detergents designed to cleanse the fuel system. While they won't quickly fix significant mechanical failures, using them could lead to smoother idling, improved performance and diminished emissions for many drivers
