Sean Dyche provided a positive update on Dele's recovery from injury as he continues to train with Everton
Dele is stepping up the intensity of his training as he remains with Everton during pre-season. The 28-year-old is no longer a Blues star after his deal with the club expired at the end of last month. But the Champions League finalist was offered the chance to continue his rehabilitation from a long-term groin injury at Finch Farm and took up that opportunity - returning to the Halewood complex on day one of the club’s pre-season after weeks of private fitness sessions in the UK and Portugal.
Those discussions were purely exploratory and were to be set against Dele’s recovery and performance over the course of the summer. Speaking after his side - undermined by injuries and which finished with a number of Under-21s on the pitch - lost 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Salford City on Saturday , Dyche highlighted Dele’s progress. Providing a positive update , he said: “Dele is getting fitter but only really just breaking into training. Forgetting about the contact situation.
