Heavy rain and flooding in the Scottish Highlands have forced ScotRail to cancel and alter numerous services between Glasgow Queen Street and destinations like Mallaig, Fort William, and Oban. A downed tree blocking the line near Loch Lomond has added to the disruption.
Glasgow rail passengers are facing disruption due to severe weather. Several ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Mallaig, Fort William and Oban have been cancelled due to a downed tree on the banks of Loch Lomond blocking the line, as well as flooding in the Highlands. The warning comes as a weather warning for snow and rain covers Glasgow and much of the rest of Scotland. Heavy rain has caused flooding at Glenfinnan, closing all lines.
A tree is blocking the line between Arrochar & Tarbet and Ardlui. The 10.36am and 2.47pm service from Glasgow Queen Street and Oban have been cancelled. The 4.05pm service from Mallaig to Glasgow Queen Street will only make it as far as Fort William. Several other services on the line are running altered or truncated routes. In a statement posted to social media, a ScotRail spokesperson said: 'Due to heavy rain flooding the railway at Glenfinnan all lines are closed. Our services between Mallaig and Fort William/Glasgow Queen Street will be cancelled, delayed or revised.' In a separate statement, the operator said: 'Due to a tree blocking the railway between Arrochar & Tarbet and Ardlui the line is currently closed. Our services between Glasgow Queen Street and Oban/Mallaig will be delayed, cancelled or revised. 'Our Network Rail Scotland colleagues are now on site investigating the issue. Services between Glasgow Queen St and Oban/Mallaig will continue to be subject to disruption.' In a statement posted to its website, a ScotRail spokesperson said: 'Because of heavy rain flooding the railway at Glenfinnan all lines are closed. Disruption is expected to last until 10am today. 'Train services between Mallaig and Glasgow Queen Street will be cancelled, delayed or revised. Because of severe weather we have had reports of flooding in the Glenfinnan area.'
