WX Charts data predicts widespread snowfall across England, including major cities, with almost half of the country's counties anticipating snowy conditions. While southwestern England and London are likely to see rain, Scotland and Northern Ireland are also expected to experience snowfall. The Met Office forecasts below-average temperatures and cloudy conditions, with a chance of colder temperatures and more wintry showers in the northeast.
New weather maps indicate a potential snowstorm impacting 21 counties across England in the coming days. Data compiled by WX Charts reveals extensive snowfall anticipated in numerous regions of England , including prominent cities like Manchester, Birmingham, and areas surrounding Newcastle, on Thursday, February 20. Almost half of England 's 48 ceremonial counties are projected to experience snowy conditions.
Northern sections of Derbyshire and the Peak District could also receive snowfall, with higher elevations anticipated to accumulate heavier coverings. The Express reports the complete list of English counties predicted to encounter snow includes Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria, Durham, and Northumberland. However, significant portions of England's southwest, including Plymouth, may remain unaffected by these conditions, while areas in the southeast, including London, are forecasted to experience rainfall. A substantial portion of Scotland, encompassing regions around Edinburgh, is also expected to see snowfall, along with multiple counties distributed across the north, center, and south of the country. Northern Ireland is anticipated to have either snowfall or snow on the ground, while much of Wales is also predicted to have accumulated snowfall across extensive regions. However, southern areas, including the capital city Cardiff, may avoid these conditions, according to the forecast. The Met Office's extended forecast, spanning Sunday, February 16, to Tuesday, February 25, suggests that south or southeasterly winds will maintain temperatures below average and often create cloudy conditions. 'There is a possibility of even colder conditions temporarily developing, which would result in more wintry showers, especially in northeastern regions,' it adds. Meanwhile, frontal zones bringing milder conditions and rain will attempt to advance from the west or southwest. 'Initially in this period, these appear likely to have limited influence over the UK,' the government agency states, although the far southwest may already be experiencing milder conditions at that point. 'If, or when, they push further northeastwards, the chance of some snow increases,' it continues. 'The transition between colder and milder conditions remains uncertain, but towards the end of this period, the milder, wetter conditions are likely to have spread across much of the country.
