Kettlewell reckons Arsenal standing by Mikel Arteta is an example of what can be achieved with a bit of faith.

He's only been in the job eight months. Yet Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell looks around the Scottish Premiership and counts just FOUR managers who have been in position longer than he has.

Kettlewell accepts managers know the risks. But he reckons clubs are guilty of not giving those bosses a proper chance to build the model which convinced them to hand them the job in the first place. "That’s a football club that stood by, trusted their manager and shut out a lot of noise. They never won the league but he took Arsenal to a far better position than they had been for a long period.

“How could you be sold on it then and three months down the line it’s all changed? We celebrate things so early, show our trust in people then very quickly that trust diminishes. That’s quite a sad state of affairs when I compare it to guys like Arteta.”
