Several major supermarkets have issued urgent recalls of festive treats due to concerns about food safety, including potential allergens and foreign objects.
Christmas food fans beware, as several major supermarkets, including Tesco and Aldi, have issued an urgent recall of various festive treats due to concerns they may be 'unsafe' for consumption. The recall is prompted by issues such as incorrect labelling or the potential presence of foreign objects. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) initiates these recalls due to undeclared allergens or the discovery of extraneous materials in food products.
In the event of a recall, the FSA provides guidance on the necessary steps for consumers and explains the reason for the product's removal from shelves. Generally, obtaining a refund is straightforward, and a receipt may not even be required. Dunnes Stores has announced a recall of several cheese varieties and cheese-based products due to concerns about the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, as reported by Lancs Live. According to the FSA, the affected cheeses are produced by or contain ingredients sourced from Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese in Ireland and are sold through Dunnes Stores in Northern Ireland. The recalled products are as follows: Dunnes Stores Wicklow Smoked Cheddar (150g), Dunnes Stores Wicklow Tomato and Herb Cheddar (150g), Dunnes Stores Wicklow Nettle and Chive Cheddar (150g), Wicklow Blue Brie (150g), Simply Better Irish Brie Cheese and Cranberry Quiche (800g), Simply Better Wicklow Ban in Ceramic Dish (150g), Simply Better Double Cream Wicklow Ban (150g), Simply Better Farmhouse Irish Cheese Selection (735g), Simply Better and Neven Maguire Cheese Selection (705g), all with any best before date. The Food Standards Agency warned: 'The possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed above. Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.' They added, 'However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis'
