'The staff in the Foyer are an amazing group who have helped and supported me so much'
At first, Easton was really shy and super nervous at the Foyer which is run by the Simon Community on the Malone Road in South Belfast. He stayed in his room a lot, only going out for school or to buy food.
He does fun activities with everyone, works on projects outside, and is learning about mental health and how to help people. "The staff in the Foyer are an amazing group who have helped and supported me so much. From helping me while in my darkest period to growing as a person. Before I moved here, I was quiet and shy but now I am the client rep of the Foyer, doing things I wouldn't have even thought I could achieve two years ago."
Jim Dennison, the boss of Simon Community, said: "Northern Ireland is in the middle of a housing and homelessness crisis. It needs urgent help. With a shocking one in 34 people in Northern Ireland legally classed as homeless - including 4,500 children - and over 86,000 individuals on the social housing waiting list, the size of the problem is really huge. And unless we change things, it will only get worse.
As part of its plan, Simon Community will make a series of appeals to various important people, including politicians, policymakers, funders, church leaders and business partners. Dennison called for everyone to work together and renew their commitment to ending homelessness in Northern Ireland.
