One supermarket boss has spoken out amid growing backlash
Asda and Morrisons are said to be pulling back on the number of self-service checkouts after bosses admitted the increasing number of them 'went too far'.
Additionally, concerns about shoplifting have escalated, with rates reaching a 20-year high in England and Wales. Morrisons, the supermarket chain, is the latest retailer to reconsider its self-checkout policy, with the CEO conceding that the company "went a bit too far" with the quantity of unmanned tills.
This shift comes amid growing resistance to the technology. Northern retailer Booths announced in November that it was eliminating them, and Asda revealed last week that it was investing in staff instead, reports Wales Online.
