Families living in three Lancashire areas will get huge discounts on ticket to Blackpool Zoo throughout March. The 'March madness' scheme will see visitors from Blackpool, Wyre and the Fylde receive a whopping 40% discount off tickets.
The £100k makeover included creating a new beach using sand from an estuary on the River Mersey, making it eight times bigger than before with more nest boxes added for mating penguin pairs. The existing pool has also being transformed, with a new lining to make it quicker and easier to clean.The Big Cat facility, which has undergone a £1.5m refurbishment is set to open later in spring. It will then welcome back lions Alyona and Khari.
Bornean orangutans Kawan, Summer, Cherie and Jingga live next door to fellow primates, the Western lowland gorillas. There's also giraffes, lemurs, gibbons, tapirs, sea lions, red pandas, kangaroos, wolves, zebras and tropical birds. "We’re looking forward to introducing the penguins to their new home and we are sure everyone is going to be impressed with the renovations," she added.
