The DWP has admitted getting its figures wrong
A blunder by the Department of Work and Pensions means thousands of Universal Credit claimants could be due back payments. The issue was spotted by former pensions minister Sir Steve Webb, with the DWP conceding that it had miscalculated its figures. Workers, many of whom have young families, who are on Universal Credit and also contributing to a pension, could see a rise in their monthly payments as well as arrears.
'So it is shocking to hear that DWP has misled them in writing, claiming that personal pension contributions cannot be deducted. It makes you wonder how many more people have been misled.' The scandal first came into view when This is Money readers began querying the accuracy of their Universal Credit payments.
