The UK is set for a prolonged period of snowfall as December deepens, with weather maps predicting a significant drop in temperature and the potential for up to 10cm of snow in some regions.
The UK is preparing for a 30-hour period of continuous snow as temperatures fall sharply in December. Weather forecasts show a significant drop in temperature across the country as Christmas approaches, increasing the likelihood of widespread snowfall. WXCharts, using Met Desk data, predicts that Scotland will experience the heaviest snowfall on Saturday, December 21st, with the Midlands and North East England following by midday.
Weather models also indicate potential snowfall in Manchester, parts of Wales, and the North West. As the weather deteriorates, maps show a concerning purple hue, with up to 10cm of snow anticipated in some areas by Sunday morning. Snowfall may persist until Sunday evening. Netweather TV's forecast for the last two weeks of the year states that high pressure is expected to move south and west, allowing an unsettled west to north-westerly weather pattern to dominate. While the south may initially remain mild and dry due to lingering high pressure, from midweek onwards, unsettled conditions are predicted to affect all parts of the country. This will involve bands of rain moving southeastwards, interspersed with periods of brighter, showery weather. The Met Office concurs, stating that temperatures will generally fluctuate around the seasonal average, with some milder periods, particularly in the south, interspersed with colder polar maritime north-westerlies. A general trend of colder weather is anticipated as the week progresses, with potential for snowfall on higher ground, especially in the north, and possibly at lower levels in central and northern Britain towards the end of the week
