The Met Office predicts a wet and windy Christmas for the UK, with the north experiencing the heaviest rainfall and strongest winds. Temperatures are expected to be above average, although brief cold snaps are possible.
It's the question on everybody's lips as the countdown to December 25 gets ever shorter - will we have a white Christmas ? Currently, the Met Office's daily forecast only goes up to Monday, December 23. But they have published a long range forecast for Saturday, December 21 to Monday, December 30 for the whole of the UK - and they are predicting a wet and windy weather.
The Met Office says: 'Remaining changeable with further spells of wet and windy weather interspersed with drier and brighter conditions. The wettest and windiest conditions will probably be in the north, especially the northwest, with spells of heavy rain at times as low pressure systems pass by. 'Further south, whilst some unsettled weather is likely at times, it will probably be drier overall with a greater influence of high pressure meaning frontal zones tend to weaken as the come south. 'Temperatures will tend to be above average for much of the time, although some brief colder incursions remain possible. Any snow will most likely be restricted to high ground in the N, although it could temporarily fall at lower levels during any colder interludes.' The BBC has predicted the weather for Christmas Day itself - but is not much more positive. According to their forecast, December 25 will be a day of 'drizzle and moderate breeze', with highs of 12'C in Yorkshire and lows of 7'C.
