The Met Office predicts potential snowfall across parts of the UK this weekend as a cold snap persists. Cloudy and cold conditions are expected to linger over the weekend and into early next week, with brighter skies anticipated from Tuesday onwards.
Love is in the air this Friday, but if you're planning to extend your Valentine's Day celebrations into the weekend, be prepared for chilly weather. The Met Office predicts that parts of the UK could experience snowfall this weekend as the cold snap persists. Currently, high pressure situated to the north is driving easterly winds throughout the week, resulting in widespread cloud cover, a biting chill in the air, and low temperatures.
This gloomy and frigid weather is expected to linger over the weekend and into the beginning of next week. However, clearer skies are anticipated from Tuesday onwards, according to the forecaster.Mike Silverstone, Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, explained that the high pressure has brought a period of overcast and subdued conditions across much of the UK. He noted that the weather pattern is set to change by the weekend, with rain anticipated in the west and a possibility of snow over higher ground in the east on Saturday. A renewed surge of cold air from the east will usher in further cloudy, but mostly dry, conditions throughout Sunday and into early next week. Mr. Silverstone added that the cold air will once again infiltrate from the east on Sunday, enveloping most of the UK by Monday. While overnight temperatures could dip low, resulting in further frosts, the day will mostly remain dry with minimal chances of additional snowfall.Silverstone anticipates brighter conditions by Tuesday, preceding the arrival of more dynamic and milder weather fronts from the Atlantic during the latter half of next week. Eastern and southeastern regions will likely experience this transition to milder conditions last, but by the end of next week, all areas are expected to become significantly warmer and more unsettled. These conditions are projected to persist into the following week, with spells of wet and windy weather likely for most areas, interspersed with cooler, showery periods. There remains a possibility of some drier spells, particularly towards the southeast.
