Kay expressed his gratitude for Ball's support both on and off air, while Ball spoke about stepping away from early mornings to focus on family. Scott Mills will take over as host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.
Vernon Kay became emotional as he bid farewell to fellow broadcaster Zoe Ball during their final BBC Radio 2 show handover. Having hosted the network's breakfast programme for six years, the legendary DJ is ready to sign off one last time tomorrow (Friday, December 20). In their last on-air exchange, a reflective Zoe, 54, shared with listeners: 'This is actually our last handover talking to each other.
' Vernon, 50, responded with heartfelt thanks, expressing his gratitude not only for Zoe's camaraderie on air but also personally behind the scenes. He said: 'Well I'm going to say my bit now. Listen, all I'm going to say is thank you. Not only for being an on-air pal. But also for being someone who is absolutely awesome. An absolute rock. 'Prior to me joining Radio 2 we've had many many conversations and you've been an absolute superstar. When I joined Radio 2 you were there holding my hand, guiding me along and telling me what's right, this that and the other. 'How to conduct yourself and all that kind of stuff. But it's the off air conversations we've had that have meant more than anything else. So Zoe, thank you. You're a special, special person and you're going to be blooming missed,' reports the Manchester Evening News. Zoe had announced her departure from the Radio 2 Breakfast Show last month, choosing to focus more on her family life. Scott Mills has been named as Zoe's successor on the show. She said in a statement: 'After six incredible years on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, it's time for me to step away from the very early mornings and focus on family.' Zoe will continue to be a part of the station, with more details about her role to be revealed in the new year. She began her journey with BBC Radio in 1997 when she co-hosted the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Her party lifestyle at the time was associated with the 'ladette culture' of the late 90s. In recent years, she has opened up about a health condition she's been dealing with
