A burst water main in Wokingham sent a massive jet of water 30ft high, causing significant damage to vehicles and property. Residents described the scene as chaotic, with streets flooded and some homes unusable due to the force of the water. The incident also caused disruption to traffic and local services.

A burst water main on Saturday morning on Luckley Road in Wokingham sent a torrent of water 30ft (9m) into the air, causing significant damage to property and disrupting the lives of local residents. One resident described the sound as 'like a storm', while others reported finding chunks of tarmac ripped from the road surface had been propelled into the air and landed on their cars, rendering them unusable.

The force of the water also caused extensive damage to vehicles, with one owner stating that the water poured inside their car, causing irreparable damage. Residents reported a scene of chaos as the water gushed from the ruptured pipe, flooding streets and houses. One resident recounted waking up to 'a jet pounded at [her] house', describing the water as 'so high that it was just falling across the road into the houses'. Some neighbours were unable to leave their homes due to the torrential flow, comparing it to 'going into a washing machine'. The freezing temperatures exacerbated the situation, with frost and icicles forming rapidly on trees and surfaces. South East Water, the utility company responsible for the water main, has apologized for the disruption and damage caused by the burst. They have repaired the pipe and reopened the road. Regional network manager Paul Mann expressed regret for the damage to three vehicles and thanked residents for their patience during the repair process
