We put the picnic favourite to the test from Asda, Lidl, Aldi, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Tesco and Co-op
They're probably on a par with cocktail sausages when it comes to kids' favourites and adults usually end up munching on them too.But to do a fair comparison of all the supermarket offerings, as well as convenience store Co-op, we decided to give the standard six-pack of sausage rolls a go.
They all look pretty similar out of their plastic packaging, the Morrisons ones just slightly shorter and fatter than the others. While Aldi and Asda describe theirs as 'golden puff pastry', at the Co-op it's 'flaky', while Tesco's is both 'golden' and 'flaky' and Morrisons' is simply 'light'. Sainsbury's and Lidl are a little less descriptive, promising just 'puff pastry'.
A couple of them - Lidl's and Tesco's - were described as 'bland' and 'a little dry' by our sausage roll tasters. Sainsbury's were also a little bland, but praised for their texture and pastry to meat ratio.
