World's First System Automatically Recommends Optimal Robotic Rehabilitation Programs for Stroke Patients

Osaka Metropolitan University researchers develop groundbreaking system to personalize robotic rehabilitation for stroke patients, improving care and reducing workload on medical staff.

Osaka Metropolitan University researchers have developed the world's first system that automatically recommends the optimal rehabilitation program for stroke patients using a rehabilitation robot. Professor Takashi Takebayashi and his team collected data from the use of Teijin Pharma Ltd.'s rehabilitation robot ReoGo-J, analyzing the rehabilitation programs selected by medical staff to match the degree of motor paralysis .

Based on a simple test to check the degree of motor paralysis in a patient's hands, the system can determine an appropriate treatment. This allows even staff without experience with robots to provide appropriate robotic rehabilitation for motor paralysis as long as medical professionals can carry out the test. The findings are published in Scientific Reports
