Adam Chowdhary told cops he had seen 'a whip' leave the scene of the 2019 stabbing
The 'best friend' of Yousef Makki faced stern questioning at a new inquest into the fatal 2019 stabbing and was forced to deny he had repeatedly lied to police 'to protect yourself'.
The coroner suggested to the witness that he ‘didn’t tell them the truth' when he mentioned a silver car to a 999 call handler. Coroner Williams continued and suggested to the witness he was being asked by ‘a very calm person on the phone’ and that Chowdhary had told the call hander ‘they’ve gone off’. The coroner suggested it to the witness ‘that’s just a lie’.“But calm or panicking, that's a lie,” added Coroner Williams, who went on that Chowdhary had told the 999 call handler three times that the attackers had left.
He denied he had ‘agreed to cook up a story’ with Molnar in which they would claim they were way ‘around the bend’ and could not see what had happened. The inquest has heard Molnar had a pen-knife while Yousef and Adam both had flick-knives earlier in the evening, although Chowdhary said Molnar took his flick knife later, following a bust-up with drug dealers Chowdhary had called to source more cannabis. They beat Molnar and threw his bike over a hedge.
Under questioning by Pete Weatherby KC, for the Makki family, Chowdhary insisted he was not frightened of Molnar although later he conceded he was 'a tiny bit afraid'.
