Marlo Thomas, the national outreach director of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, missed her annual appearance on the Today Show special for the first time in 21 years, citing her need to mourn the loss of her husband, Phil Donahue.
Marlo Thomas , the national outreach director at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, was absent from the annual Today Show segment for the hospital’s Thanks & Giving series for the first time in 21 years on Monday. The reason for her absence was her mourning the death of her husband, Phil Donahue , who passed away in August at the age of 88. Thomas, who is 87 years old, has been married to Donahue for 44 years. Her brother, Tony Thomas, took her place on the show.
Tony shared that Marlo and Phil’s marriage was a true love affair and that it would be a while before she could handle the loss
