Huge crowds gathered to dance and party at the Pier Head this evening
tonight, Friday August 23. The festival marked the first night of a long weekend of performances from legendary stars including Frankie Goes to Hollywood's frontman Holly Johnson, The Lightning Seeds, The Jacksons, and loads more.
The festival aims to carry on the spirit of the original Mathew Street Festival, which was an annual staple in the city running from 1993 until its final year in 2013. This year's festival consists of four individual events in the form of Friday’s Liverpool Legends, Saturday’s Party at the Pier, Sunday’s Mathew Street Legacy and ends in Monday’s Cavern Takeover.
Taking place across the August Bank Holiday, Friday August 23 to Monday August 26, Liverpool Celebrates will commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the last Mathew Street Festival on the Sunday with dozens of acts to perform over the four-day music extravaganza. The original Mathew Street Festival was an annual staple running from 1993 until its final year in 2013.Liver BuildingFestival organisers issued an update about its stages.
