New data reveals that almost half of the dogs euthanized by Nottingham City Council in 2024 were XL Bullies. Of the 90 animals euthanized, 40 were XL bullies, followed by 17 American Bulldogs and 13 crossbreeds. This represents a stark increase compared to previous years, with only a handful of dogs euthanized in 2020, 2021, and 2023.
Almost half of the dogs euthanised by Nottingham City Council in 2024 were XL Bullies, new data has revealed. The figures, obtained through a Freedom of Information request to the authority, show that 307 dogs entered the council's kennels in 2024.
A total of 104 dogs were reclaimed by their owners, but none of them were passed onto a welfare organisation, the same figures show. The 90 euthanasia procedures in 2024 cost the authority £5,400.
