New data reveals a sharp increase in dog euthanasia by Nottingham City Council in 2024, with XL Bullies making up the majority. Out of 307 dogs entering the council's kennels, 90 were euthanized, 40 of which were XL Bullies. This represents a significant rise compared to previous years.
Almost half of the dogs euthanised by Nottingham City Council in 2024 were XL Bullies, new data has revealed. The figures, obtained through a Freedom of Information request to the authority, show that 307 dogs entered the council's kennels in 2024.
A total of 104 dogs were reclaimed by their owners, but none of them were passed onto a welfare organisation, the same figures show. The 90 euthanasia procedures in 2024 cost the authority £5,400.
