A popular coffee shop in the city centre has announced its intention to close from Monday, November 7. The Specialty Coffee Shop on Maid Marian Way was known for its unique Italian food and coffee.
The cafe owners cited the years spent in the pandemic, the crashing economy and the rising cost of living as the reasonswhy they had been forced to close. They shared that the factors had affected the business but it had been 'an honour' to serve the Nottingham scene. The coffee shop was owned and run by Lucy Giacone and her partner Michelangelo Franco who set up the shop after they visited a coffee plantation in Costa Rica and decided to apply their knowledge to selecting and serving excellent coffee. The cafe won awards including the Nottingham Independent Business of the Year 2019.They shared the post on social media: "It’s with our deepest and saddest regret that we are having to announce the closure of Specialty.
They added: "It has been an absolute honour to be part of the Nottingham indi scene and we feel humbled by all the friends that we have made along the way, we have seen engagements, birthdays and knock-out parties, every person that walked through our doors has been part of Specialty, and that is all we wanted right from the beginning, a community, a coffee shop that gave back to the city. It's been a great ride so thank you, thank you. Lots of Love Lucy, Miky and the specialty family.
Customers and coffee fans were quick to leave messages of support and sadness that the business was closing online. The cafe had its final day of trading on Sunday, November 6, and had to close early due to selling out of coffee thanks to demand. Nottinghamshire Live attempted to contact the owners for further comment.
