Glasgow woman was forced to pay for private treatment after undiagnosed illness left her unable to speak, eat or sleep.
A woman has told how she was forced to pay for private medical treatment after an undiagnosed disorder left her unable to speak, eat or sleep.
Hannah, from Kelvindale in Glasgow, said: “I spent most of my adolescence knowing something was wrong, but I didn’t have the language to articulate what it was. When I did reach out for help, the NHS simply didn’t have the resource to help trauma survivors like me. “Mentally and physically I just couldn’t cope. I had to leave my job as my brain was in a hypervigilant state and everything around me felt like a threat. I was struggling to function and knew I had to find the right therapist who was equipped to help me.”Hannah admits she struggled to find the right support through the NHS and it was only after forking out for private trauma therapy that she felt ready to move towards rebuilding her life.
“I’ve still got a long way to go, but just having a diagnosis and the right therapy is helping enormously.” “We need more safe spaces, and we need people to understand that we can’t just ignore the nightmares that live in our bodies.
