A lesser-known payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) could see millions of Brits receiving an advance of £617.60. This applies to certain Universal Credit recipients who may be eligible for a month's worth of funds early to cover essential outgoings like food or rent. However, it's important to note that this is a loan and will need to be repaid eventually.

A lesser-known payment from the Department for Work and Pensions could see millions of Brits pocketing an "advance" of £617.60. This applies to certain Universal Credit recipients who may be eligible for a month's worth of funds early, intended to cover essential outgoings like food or rent that they're struggling to meet.

The Government website clarifies: "If you don’t have enough to live on while you wait for your first payment you may be able to get an advance of your first Universal Credit payment. When you make a new claim for Universal Credit you will normally receive your first payment seven days after the end of your first assessment period. You will then be paid monthly on the same date, unless your payment date falls on a weekend or Bank Holiday.

"Your advance will need to be repaid gradually from your future Universal Credit payments, or through other means if you no longer receive Universal Credit, such as from your wages or any other benefits you may be receiving," states Gov.uk.
