Paul Prine has been removed as Mobile police chief Tuesday after a unanimous City Council vote. This is a developing story that will be updated

Wed, May 1st 2024 at 8:57 PMMOBILE, Ala. —is officially no longer the Mobile Police Chief . The Mobile City Council voted unanimously to terminate him late Tuesday afternoon at Mayor Sandy Stimpson's request. Prine has been on administrative leave since April 9th and has since made a series of public accusations against the Stimpson administration of unethical behavior.

Before the council voted on removing Prine from his position, they passed a resolution to investigate some of his claims. Stimpson says his office turned over two internal investigations into a cyber consulting contract Prine called into question to the Alabama Attorney General's office Tuesday morning. Stimpson said they have not found anything illegal with the 321zInsights contract. Stimpson says those internal investigations are also being provided to the city council.

Prine said the only thing surprising by the vote is how long it took to get to this point given the fallout with the mayor began months ago. The mayor made the request to fire him after they could not reach a severance agreement. Prine says he could not agree to a one-way non-disparaging clause that would have prevented him from speaking publicly and negatively about city leaders.
