Sunna van Kampen, founder of Tonic Health, has aimed to separate the 'bad' from the 'good' processed foods in a number of nutrition-related Instagram videos
We're often warned about the health risks associated with processed food, from an increased cancer risk linked to red meat consumption to a higher likelihood of diabetes due to excessive fast food intake.
While he dismissed bagels as 's***', Kampen praised sourdough and pita bread, with the latter often containing fewer additives than other bread varieties. He said: "One of the most unprocessed versions of bread in the supermarket is actually pitta breads. They are a classic, they're super cheap - 50p.
Moving on to the snack section, Kampen then unveils what he considers to be the best crisp options with the lowest fat content. In another video, he said: "The best actually is the classic Pop Chips, popped not fried, and they're looking at 13% fat. So, that is your best crisps option." The NIHR warns that consuming these regularly will elevate your risk of obesity and chronic diseases like type two diabetes. Earlier this year, scientists at the University of Oxford also stressed that high-sugar foods can even exacerbate the onset of dementia.
