When 40 people were spotted casually strolling on Southport Pier, police and coastguard had to be hastily summoned.
However, staggering financial costs involved in refurbishing it have left the re-opening plans hanging in uncertainty. Previously, Sefton Council ordered preliminary inspections to gauge the extent of the damages at the pier, reports the ECHO. These contracts are used in a two-stage tendering to obtain further design input, construction and technical advice as well as detailed information about potential costs. The formalising of the relationship between the two parties means A E Yates join Southport based RAL Architects Gardiner and Theobold, structural engineers Fairhurst, Steve A Hunt and Associates and Pegasus Planning as part of the expert project team tasked with bringing Southport Pier back to life.
Sefton's local authority believe this latest partnership agreement puts them in the perfect place to deliver the refurbishment project - the only caveat being there is still no funding in place to begin the work.
