Full list of places Arctic blast will hit
The UK is bracing for a frosty start to January as an icy Arctic blast brings more than just New Year's resolutions.
According to one map depicting the UK entirely engulfed by the icy weather front, the likelihood of snow is roughly 50/50, with the entire nation at risk of the cold snap, and Scotland being the most probable. Another map suggests that the southwest and Wales could experience up to 5cm of snow per hour, with parts of Scotland potentially facing up to eight.
However, the Met Office has somewhat downplayed expectations, making no mention of snow in their long-range forecast, reports the Express. In their forecast for 24 December to 2 January, they stated: "Later on, it may become settled in the northwest too, but confidence in the position of the north/south boundary between settled and unsettled steadily lowers through the period."
