Tesco has announced the closure of its Glasgow stores ahead of Storm Eowyn, which is expected to bring dangerous winds and travel disruption. The Met Office has issued a red warning for Friday, January 24, urging people to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel. Schools, travel operators, and other businesses are also closing as a precaution.

Tesco has announced the closure of its Glasgow stores due to the impending severe weather brought on by Storm Eowyn . The Met Office has issued a red danger to life warning for Friday, January 24, from 10am until 5pm, predicting wind speeds of up to 100mph. Glasgow , Lanarkshire, and Renfrewshire are among the local authorities that have implemented school closures in response to the storm. Travel operators have also canceled services and strongly advised against all non-essential travel.

Supermarkets and shopping centers are anticipated to close as a precautionary measure. Tesco has proactively emailed customers in Glasgow, Ayrshire, and Stirling to inform them about the closure of their local stores. The email states: 'Due to red weather warnings, and to ensure the safety of our colleagues and customers, Tesco stores in your area will be closed tomorrow, Friday 24 January. We’re still open as normal this evening. 'This means Home Delivery and Click+Collect orders scheduled for Friday from these stores will be cancelled. If you have a slot booked, we'll contact you to confirm next steps. 'Our stores will reopen when the red warning is lifted in your area and it’s safe to do so. You can check Store Locator for opening information. 'We're sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.' The red warning, the most severe issued by the national forecaster, comes as Glasgow is expecting gusts of 89mph. Red warnings have been issued across the Central Belt and Northern Ireland, with amber warnings covering the rest of Scotland and northern England. Within the red zone, 'very strong winds' are predicted to tear roofs off buildings, and driving conditions will be 'very dangerous' due to fallen trees on roads. Power lines are expected to be downed, leading to road, railway line, and bridge closures. Delays and cancellations are also anticipated for bus, train, ferry services, and flights. The red warning encompasses Glasgow in its entirety, as well as Lanarkshire, Dunbartonshire, Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, and Argyll and Bute. An amber warning for wind will be in place across Glasgow and the wider region from 1pm Friday to 6am Saturday, with the Met Office warning of flying debris, power cuts, and travel disruption. Glasgow is also under a yellow warning for wind throughout Friday from 6am to midnight, from midnight to 3pm on Saturday, and from 8am to 3pm on Sunday. A yellow warning for snow previously issued for Glasgow has been lifted, but it still covers Argyll and Bute
