The running of West Dunbartonshire Council has been thrown into confusion after the Labour administration resigned its leadership at the end of full council meeting.
Council sources suggested there had been behind-the-scenes problems within the Labour group over a bid to propose Michelle McGinty as Provost and was suggested the administration had been instructed to quit by MSP Jackie Baillie during a short recess, “They decided to announce this at the end of the meeting and walk promptly from the chamber. Labour leader Martin Rooney interrupted the new Provost to deliver the news while she was trying to offer outgoing thanks to the previous Provost and new MP Douglas McAllister.
